Turning to joy (a meditation)…

18 03 2008

A meditation we wrote for a CR last year…

Faces — that say: Why should I be joyful?
This is the time of turning …
The turning time from deep darkness
We and many faces seek out light at this time of year
For during the winter solstice, we experience the days of least daylight.

This is the time of turning…
The turning time for light
The light of the faces of Old testament prophets -
As Hildegard of Bingen said u Prophets illuminate the darkness”
Prophets like Isaiah … and John Baptist

This is the time of turning…
The turning time from faces of deep sadness
For we seek out love, hope, joy
For during this time we experience our need for something greater.

This is the time of turning…
The turning time into joyful faces
For the saints recognised God as their joy
And their faces radiated a joy only God could give.
Set us to turn this night.

For this is our time of turning…
Turn from sadness and darkness
Turn towards light and joy
Turning our faces Godward.

If we turn back to past sadness
Like Lots wife we are solidified (Gen 19:26)
And our back is turned to God.
But there is a turning that flavours
Our whole being …
As we turn to face God Face to Face.
Flavoured in God’s joy for us
Salted by God’s love in the coming Light for all.
Then we become salt for others … ( Matthew 5: 13)
Flavouring their lives with God’s love …
Bringing joy to their faces.
Turn us this night by your coming Light Jesus.
By your face graciously looking at us

Fill us with your light and your flavour for loving
As we take salt…
Help us take the flavour for life… your life…
Light into darkness
to the sad your joy for them.
AMEN

Rhythm of sacrifice

This months contemplative rhythms will look at the rhythm of sacrifice and will include a contemplative eucharist. It is taking place on the  11th March. Unfortunately the usual Harvard Chapel is in use so we will be meeting in the education centre at Southwark Cathedral. We look forward to see you there, all as ever welcome. We will also be announcing another series of contemplative rhythms.
